The Laboratory of Metabolomics was established at the Insititute of Molecular and Translational Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Palacký University in Olomouc as a new facility for multi-component mass spectrometric analyses of small molecules in 2008.
Today we are a multi-disciplinary team of specialists and students covering fields of analytical chemistry, biochemistry, clinical chemistry, medical genetics, inborn errors of metabolism, statistical analysis and pharmacology. We are able to solve various issues in areas of clinical diagnostics.
Main research topics are aimed to the fields of clinical applications of targeted and untargeted metabolomics/lipidomics of plasma/serum, dry blood spots, urine, cells, tissues. Another focus is on therapeutic drug monitoring and drug metabolisation studies via analysis of small molecules by the use of separation methods coupled with mass spectrometry detection.
During the last decade, we successfully solved various projects focused on leukemia, cancer, asthma, inherited metabolic disorders and many others. The main contribution of metabolomics/lipidomics consists of a detailed understanding of metabolic processes and finding characteristic and specific patterns of diseases.
